Someone Knocked on My Door at 2AM… But My Security Camera Showed No One
Part 1
The first knock came at exactly 2:03 AM.
It was soft. Just three taps.
Knock… knock… knock.
At first, I thought I imagined it.
When you live alone long enough, your brain starts playing tricks on you at night. Pipes creak. Wood expands. The refrigerator hums like it’s whispering secrets.
But this was different.
This was my front door.
I sat up in bed, staring at the glowing blue numbers on my alarm clock.
2:03 AM.
The knock came again.
Knock… knock… knock.
My heart began to beat faster.
No one visits people at 2 AM unless something is wrong.
I grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight before slowly stepping out of bed. The hallway outside my bedroom was dark, except for the faint orange glow of the streetlight leaking through the living room window.
The knocking stopped.
I stood there for a moment, listening.
Nothing.
Maybe it was a prank.
Maybe some drunk person had the wrong house.
Still, I walked toward the living room and looked at the security monitor mounted on the wall.
I installed the cameras a few months ago after a series of break-ins in the neighborhood. The system had three cameras: one on the front porch, one in the backyard, and one covering the driveway.
The screen showed all three angles.
And the front porch camera showed nothing.
No one was standing at my door.
The porch was empty.
Just the welcome mat and the small potted plant beside the steps.
I frowned.
Maybe whoever knocked had already left.
That made sense.
People knock, wait a few seconds, then leave if no one answers.
But something about the timing felt strange.
The second knock came barely ten seconds after the first one.
There was no way someone could knock and disappear from the camera that quickly.
I leaned closer to the monitor and rewound the footage.
The system kept recordings of the last 24 hours.
I scrolled back thirty seconds and pressed play.
The porch appeared on screen.
Empty.
The timestamp read 2:02:40 AM.
The camera watched silently as the seconds ticked by.
2:02:50.
2:02:55.
2:03:00.
And then—
The knocking sound echoed through the house again.
Knock… knock… knock.
But on the camera…
The porch remained empty.
I stared at the screen.
No movement.
No shadow.
No person.
Just the door.
My stomach tightened.
The knock was clearly audible on the recording.
But the camera showed no one knocking.
A chill crept up my spine.
I paused the video and looked toward the front door in my living room.
It stood quietly at the end of the hallway.
Closed.
Still.
Silent.
I suddenly felt very aware of how alone I was in the house.
I told myself there had to be a logical explanation.
Maybe the camera had a delay.
Maybe someone knocked and stepped out of frame.
Maybe
Knock… knock… knock.
I froze.
The sound was louder this time.
Three sharp knocks.
From the door.
My heart began hammering in my chest.
I slowly turned back to the monitor.
The porch camera still showed nothing.
Not a single person.
But the knocking had definitely come from the door.
I knew the sound of my own front door.
I walked toward it slowly.
Every step felt heavy.
The wooden floor creaked under my feet.
The hallway seemed longer than usual.
I stopped a few feet from the door.
Silence.
My hand hovered over the doorknob.
“Hello?” I called out.
No answer.
I looked through the peephole.
The porch light illuminated the empty steps.
No one there.
I checked the monitor again.
Still nothing.
My mind raced through possibilities.
Prank?
Faulty recording?
Kids messing around?
But who plays pranks at 2 AM?
And more importantly—
How were they knocking without appearing on camera?
I stepped back from the door.
That’s when my phone buzzed.
I nearly jumped.
It was a notification from the security app.
Motion detected: Front Porch Camera
I looked at the monitor.
Still empty.
No movement.
But the phone insisted the camera had detected something.
I opened the notification.
The app displayed a short video clip.
I pressed play.
The porch appeared.
Empty as usual.
Then suddenly—
The door handle moved.
Just slightly.
Like someone was trying it.
But again…
There was no one there.
The handle twisted down slowly.
Then released.
My blood ran cold.
Someone—or something—had just tried my door.
And the camera still showed nothing.
I backed away from the door and grabbed the baseball bat I kept beside the couch.
My hands were shaking.
“Okay… okay,” I muttered to myself.
Think logically.
Maybe the camera was malfunctioning.
Maybe the angle missed someone standing very close to the wall.
But the door handle…
The camera was pointed directly at it.
There was no way someone could move it without appearing on screen.
Unless…
Unless they were standing somewhere the camera couldn't see.
But where?
There was nowhere to hide on the porch.
Just two steps and a railing.
Unless someone was crouched extremely low…
But even then the camera would catch something.
A shadow.
A hand.
A shoe.
Anything.
Yet the footage showed nothing at all.
I checked the timestamp again.
2:11 AM.
The house felt colder now.
The silence pressed in around me.
And then—
Knock… knock… knock.
This time the sound exploded through the house.
Loud.
Aggressive.
Like whoever was outside was losing patience.
My heart nearly stopped.
I stared at the monitor.
The porch remained empty.
But the knocking continued.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Three perfect taps.
Always three.
The bat felt heavier in my hands.
“Who’s there?” I shouted.
No reply.
Just silence.
Then my phone buzzed again.
Another notification.
Motion detected: Backyard Camera
I turned to the monitor.
The backyard feed flickered slightly.
The yard was dark except for the pale glow of the moon.
The camera faced the back door and the small wooden fence behind it.
At first I sawnothing.
Then something moved.
Not a person.
A shadow.
A long, thin shadow stretching across the grass.
But there was nothing casting it.
No figure.
No body.
Just the shadow.
It moved slowly toward the back door.
My breath caught in my throat.
The knocking returned.
But now it came from **both doors**.
Front door.
Back door.
Three knocks.
At the exact same time.
*Knock… knock… knock.*
The sound echoed through the house like a drumbeat.
I felt my pulse in my ears.
Someone was definitely outside.
But the cameras showed no one.
The shadow on the backyard camera stopped right in front of the door.
Then slowly…
Very slowly…
The back door handle began to turn.
At that moment my phone rang.
I nearly dropped it.
The caller ID showed an unknown number.
My hands trembled as I answered.
“H-hello?”
There was silence for a moment.
Then a voice spoke.
Soft.
Whispering.
“You shouldn’t open the door.”
My stomach dropped.
“Who is this?”
The voice ignored the question.
“It’s been knocking on houses all night.”
A cold wave washed over me.
“What do you mean it?”
Another pause.
Then the whisper came again.
“Whatever you do… don’t let it in.”
Before I could say anything else, the call ended.
The knocking stopped instantly.
The house fell silent.
I stood there staring at the phone.
My heart pounding.
Then my security monitor flickered.
The screen went black.
For a moment the house was completely quiet.
Then slowly…
Very slowly…
My front door handle began to turn.
From the inside.
