The Day of Indigenous Resistance. Is an official holiday celebrated on October 12 also in Nicaragua, Navarra (Spain). That coincides with the Day of the Race or Columbus Day that is celebrated in other countries of America and is also a National Holiday, in Spain (Day of the Pillar in Zaragoza) .

Exploration. Christopher Columbus sailed along the eastern coast of Venezuela on his third voyage in 1498, the only one of his four voyages to reach the South American mainland. This expedition discovered the so-called "Pearl Islands" of Cubagua and Margarita off the northeastern coast of Venezuela.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt designated Columbus Day (then celebrated October 12) a national holiday in 1934. Since 1971, when Columbus Day was designated the second Monday in October, it has been celebrated as a federal holiday. In many locations across the country Americans hold parades to commemorate the day.
