How long do you keep things in the fridge? And at what point do you throw things out.
growing up my family used to host the greater family for holidays, even though we didn't have too much to spare, we were very frugal, so at the end of these holidays we would end up with lots of leftovers, (some of whom already heated and reheated multiple times) and we would eat those until we finished it all or it went bad.
only later on in life I realized what my family considered bad and what most of the world considered bad, are quite different.
it was all about the smell and taste (and sometimes visual of mold), if the food smelled ok we would eat it (even things like rice that's been reheated many times and in the fridge for week+), if it smelled weird we would do a taste test, and usually would eat it another day or two before the taste also went bad.
I'm pretty sure this is a very wrong way to do it, and probably wasn't healthy for our guts, but when I think about all the food that has to be thrown away it makes me feel bad for not "enduring" even though I know it's illogical.
so now I'm an adult and realize I still somewhat do like my parents with the smell and taste tests, I'm more lax than them but I know for a fact I've eaten some things general guidelines would usually tell you to avoid.
I want to find a balance between the two, what would you suggest? #finance source
