Do you treat competition and comparison the same? Should you?
This is a very dangerous road we can take if we treat both of these the same. For they are very different and should be acknowledged.
They can be very similar to most people but the biggest differences are how you perceive each one.
Comparison tends to involve either self-flattery (“Look at how great I am because I’m better than them,”) or self-pity (“Look at how terrible I am because I’m worse than them.”) Both of these responses involve literally sitting around and staying the same as you are now. Using a low level energy. You are either patting your own back or kicking your own butt with “comparison”.
Competition is the action form of “doing better”. Competition says, “I hope the other guy brings his A-game so it forces me to become better.” Comparison says, “Look at where I AM.” Competition says, “Look at where I am GOING.”
Comparing yourself a not action. It s just a process where we identify our lacking or theirs. Usually our own lacking that leads to lower self-confidence and defeating attitude.
All of us have talents. And without competition, we would never see our full potential by being challenged to perform.
But I can guarantee you that if all you do is compare you to others, you will never find your full potential and realize your special talents.
Learn how to compete in a healthy way by taking action. Don’t get caught up in the limitations of comparison. Everyone is unique.
But all of us need to be pushed and challenged to excel, to grow, and be successful.
Know the difference. Use one, forget the other. Healthy attitude is the challenge, Not the comparison.
