Peter Jackson visited the Rogue one set to watch the Vader scene
Director Gareth Edwards: “Early in my career, I got an invitation from Peter Jackson to go down to New Zealand, and I got to hang out on the set of The Hobbit. I always wanted to return the favor, but there's nothing I could ever, like, give to Peter Jackson that would equal, like, what he'd done for me. But then suddenly I was going to do the Star Wars film and was thinking, oh, we should invite him to come on to the set of Star Wars, that's pretty cool. It was the last day of filming, we were doing the Darth Vader thing and I was like, Pete, we're about to shoot Darth Vader if you wanted to come along. And l instantly got an email back saying, “I'II be there in half an hour.” And he turned up and it was like we'd set up this shot, and it was literally like the classic moment where Darth Vader turns on the lightsaber and it all goes red. And Peter Jackson walks in the room and it's like, oh, hey Pete, hey. And he's like, “Oh hey, what you doing?” And it was like one of these beautiful moments where you get to go, shhhhh, okay action! And suddenly like *lightsaber noises* That felt pretty special to me to be able to kind of do that in front of one of my heroes.”
