🌧️ Floodwaters persisted in low-lying parts of Bangkok on 27 September after torrential rain, forcing thousands of people from their homes into temporary shelters as conditions began to ease.

Authorities worked to drain canals after nearly 300 millimetres of rain fell over 48 hours from 24 September, according to Thailand’s Public Relations Department. It said major canals had filled faster than the city could discharge water.

The flooding disrupted residents and transport in a capital built on a low-lying river delta. Bangkok’s drainage network relies on canals, pumping stations, floodgates, tunnels and water-storage projects, but intense rainfall can overwhelm local capacity.

🚧 Officials continued the citywide response while water receded. The episode renewed attention to Bangkok’s monsoon exposure and to the flood-management challenges highlighted by the devastating 2011 Thailand floods.
