Thoughts about learning low level things
Hi everyone, I want to share some thoughts about learning CS.
I am a curious person, very passionate about exploring low level things because I want to know how things work.
After 1 month of studying hard, I finished the OSTEP book, then How Linux Works. At first I thought this was the perfect combination, because it gave me an understanding of how OS works, more specifically Linux, which is a huge amount of knowledge.
Then I decided to apply my knowledge to create an application, and I realized that I could not do anything at all. All the concepts and ideas I learned were just theories, I did not even know if they would help me in my current job.
However, I know that this knowledge will be a solid foundation for me to delve deeper into a certain field, for example Linux Programming like building a shell, a webserver, Linux kernel development (too hard), or simply system administration.
I mean that low level things like this need to be learned from basic to very deep to be able to do the job. If you only learn the basics, it will be useless, you will never have the opportunity to apply those concepts.
