LPT: Block a 10-minute buffer before meetings so small…

LPT: Block a 10-minute buffer before meetings so small surprises do not wreck your day

Rant time: I keep learning this the hard way. When my calendar is full of back-to-back meetings, one tiny surprise can balloon into an afternoon of scrambling.

LPT: Put a recurring 10-minute buffer on your calendar before any meeting where you need to be on camera, present, or share your screen. Treat that time as part of the meeting.

What it fixes: Last-minute issues like audio not connecting, a file not exporting, a sudden coughing fit, realizing your notes are in the wrong document, or just needing a sip of water tend to happen when you have zero extra time. If you are stacked meeting to meeting you end up borrowing time from the next meeting, then the next, and suddenly you are late and stressed.

How to do it: If a meeting is 30 minutes, schedule it for 20. If it is 60, schedule it for 50. Use the buffer for only a few things: open the document you need, test your mic, close extra tabs, and do a quick 30 second sanity check of what you want to say. If nothing goes wrong, you get a short reset instead of doomscrolling. One time my mic refused to connect five minutes before a demo and that extra 10 minutes saved me.

This is especially helpful when you are not feeling 100 percent but still have to look normal for work. I wish I had started doing this years ago instead of pretending I can teleport between tasks.
