Victor Symphony Orchestra (dir. Nat Shilkret) - An American in Paris - 1929 First-recorded version of the jazz-influenced 1928 George Gershwin composition (issued over four 12-inch 78 sides). Victor Music Director Nathaniel Shilkret ’s “Victor Symphony Orchestra” consisted of musicians drawn from members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Although George Gershwin is prominently credited on the label, his only contribution to this recording, as a performer, was a brief celesta solo.
