I have a friend that lives in NYC and worked in a building 'in the shadow of' one of the World Trade Center Towers. She got laid-off three weeks BEFORE 9-11 and waited a couple of weeks before job hunting. One week before 9-11, she applied for a job in one of the Twin Towers and while she was a good candidate for the position, the employer said no as they wanted to 'promote from within' but for transparency, had to post the job opening publicly. So at 9-AM-ish on the morning of Sept. 11th, she was across the river filing her first Unemployment Claim and from the window, saw the first (and later, second) plane crash into the Tower/s!
