Guide to saving game data to USB with no HDMI
So I yanked the HDMI out by accident and damaged the HDMI port on the PS4, no other way to see the screen (I did try everything) and \~£100 for an HDMI repair here so decided to upgrade to a PS5 instead but I managed to blind navigate through the menu system and save off all of my my game data by watching a few vids on YouTube on the menu system. Thought it might be useful to others:
Steps
• Boot machine, wait for white light.
• Press Up once (to main menu bar).
• Right 7 times (to Settings).
• X (Confirm enter Settings).
• Down 8 times (Application Saved Data Management).
• X (Confirm).
• X (Confirm again for Save Data on System Storage).
• Down once (Copy to USB).
• X (Confirm).
• Option (to open right side menu, there's only one option there for Select Multiple Applications).
• X (Confirm).
• Right once (to Select All).
• X (Confirm).
• Down twice (past Deselect All to Copy).
• X (Confirm Copy).
• Wait a few mins before removing USB drive.
A quick test you can do before trying all these steps is to find where your Power option is on the top menu after pressing Up once after boot up. It’s either 7 or 8 steps to the right. Mine was 8, so try this to see if it’ll power down:
• Boot up machine.
• Up once (to menu bar).
• Right 8 (or 7) times (to Power).
• X (Confirm).
• Down (to Power Options).
• X (Confirm).
• Down (down to Power Off).
• X (Confirm).
The white light should start pulsing to indicate power down. If it doesn’t you’re kinda lost at that point, so hold down the power button until the second beep and release. Power up again and try tweaking the number of right presses to find the Power option and then you know where you are.
However many right steps it takes to power down, the Settings is to the left of the Power option in the menu, so Settings is 1 less step than it took you to find the Power option.
