This an opportunity, as is every day, to recognize and honor the achievements of women throughout history. This special day was first declared by Congress in 1971 to commemorate the ratification of the 19th Amendment which gave women in America their right to vote. On this important date, it is important to celebrate what has been accomplished, while recognizing how much must be done to achieve true gender equality.
Why Women’s Equality Day is Important
1. Women's Equality Day celebrates the progress made for gender equality. Women's Equality Day is a holiday that celebrates women's right to vote, which was granted to them August 26, 1920 with the passage of the 19th Amendment. It is a day to remember and honor the achievements of women throughout history who fought for our rights and continue fighting today, as well as recognizing how far we have yet to go towards true gender parity.

By talking about Women's Equality Day, we start meaningful conversations about issues related to gender equality and why it's important.
