I cannot figure out what I need to do to purchase a gun in my situation
OK so I am going to school in North Carolina and live here most the time in my own apartment. However I have my main address, car registered and drivers license in TN as that is my home state. I turn 21 in a few weeks and have been wanting to get a handgun for self defense and shooting some cans at my girlfriends parents property that they have here in NC.
I was trying to figure out what I need to have to get a gun here in NC, so I called around a few places and tried to figure stuff out. But according to ATF 80-21 it says I am a resident of NC while I am here for school? The stores I have called disagree and say they don't feel comfortable selling to me. When I called a store in TN they told me I was technically a resident of NC and he didn't feel comfortable selling to me either, even with my TN ID. Am I just unable to purchase a gun unless I swap my ID over here and re register my car and change insurance? Or is it possible for me to drive back to TN at some point and get myself a gun that I can bring back here?
I am sorry if these are bad questions I just am having trouble figuring this all out.
