🛥️ Congolese authorities quarantined nearly 200 boat passengers near Kinshasa on August 6 after a former passenger died with Ebola-like symptoms. Test results were pending, and officials said Kinshasa had no confirmed Ebola case at that time.
The passenger had disembarked about three weeks earlier in Pimu, Mongala Province, more than 1,000 kilometers from the capital along the Congo River. The precautionary quarantine shows how river travel can extend the response far beyond the outbreak’s eastern center.
Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya said confirmed cases in the outbreak had reached 4,000, including more than 1,800 deaths. Officials say 60–70% of newly recorded cases are not being identified through contact tracing, while insecurity, population movement and unpaid health-worker protests have disrupted the response.
