🚆 Avanti West Coast services will transfer to public ownership on 7 March 2027, the UK government has announced.
The operator runs long-distance services on the West Coast Main Line, linking London with cities including Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow, as well as destinations in North Wales.
The government said the move responds to infrastructure problems, cancellations and delays. It has outlined an extra £10 million for power and signalling maintenance, in addition to £840 million previously pledged for West Coast Main Line infrastructure.
🏗️ A further £50 million is planned for London Euston upgrades, including £11 million for seating, waiting areas and toilets. The transition is part of the wider programme to move Department for Transport-contracted passenger services into public ownership before Great British Railways is established.
