Australia’s seventh Intergenerational Report says deaths could outnumber births in the 2060s as fertility falls and the population ages. 🌏
The Treasury report projects population growth of 0.9% a year over the long term, below the historical 1.4% rate, and slower growth in real GDP per person.
It projects government payments rising to 27.4% of GDP by the mid-2060s, underlining fiscal pressure from demographic change.
The report looks to 2065–66 and identifies artificial intelligence, geopolitical fragmentation, the energy transition, ageing, industrial transformation and intergenerational equity as major policy transitions. 🤖
