I live in an *extremely* HCOL area and cook at home 95% of the time. However, one Saturday morning I was feeling down and thought I could use some quiet time and grab a bite. I decided on Denny's mostly because I haven't been there in so long but also out of curiosity.
I was surprised to see very reasonable/great value meals? They had 2 eggs, hash, and toast for $5.99??? I felt like it was 10-15 years ago. Granted it's probably from Sysco, but it tasted similar to mom and pop or mid-class diners for 2-3x the cost, whom probably use Sysco also lol. For $9.99 it would include a stack of pancakes (3) and bacon/sausage!
Granted their coffee was $3.99, but they got to make their margins someway. And I have a soft spot for unlimited shitty diner coffee for some reason. My total came to $12.92 after 18% tip, but would have been significantly cheaper without coffee (yes I make coffee at home).
Not sure where I'm going with this, but thought I'd share... #finance source
