Air conditioning not working off of shore power Hi…

Air conditioning not working off of shore power

Hi everyone! I’m having some troubles with my air conditioning unit crashing our power when we’re plugged into shore power and hoping for some advice.

Preface: we did NOT build our van. We purchased it already converted from a couple off of FB marketplace

We drive a 2020 Ford Transit extended high roof. The air conditioning unit is Advent Air and draws about 1.4kw of power when actively cooling, but draws in more than 1.8kw when it first kicks on (this is important). The battery system is 2 EcoFlow Delta Pros with solar and shore power.

Here’s where we think the issue lies (but definitely not sure): when we aren’t plugged into shore power, the battery system can output the 1.8kw+ that the ac unit needs when first kicking on. When we’re plugged into shore power, however, the ac unit is trying to pull in the 1.8kw+ from the shore power, and since the batteries cannot accept shore power input past that, everything just shuts off. When we start the ac unit without shore power, it works fine. We’ve tried starting it off of shore and then once it starts drawing under 1.8kw we plug it in, but that crashes everything, too. Which makes our current theory kind of a bust.

Basically, our ac won’t run when plugged into shore power, but will run off of our batteries, and we’re not really sure why.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated!
