The Short Version: I'm trying to discover rock. Give me your favorite artists and their albums that I should listen to.
The long version: Hi! I didn't really grow up listening to music and probably didn't listen to anything specific until I was about 16 (25 now). As I've started to listen to music as more than just noise in the background and consider it both art and a hobby, I've been trying to discover all the music that I just didn't get a chance to really experience.
My current favorite genre is hip-hop / jazz rap. It used to be very hard for me to discover music, I used to just add random songs a friend played or that I heard somewhere and I liked, but didn't really deep dive into the artists behind the songs. So to change that, these past two years I've started going through the entire discographies of artists that I've listened to before or have always heard about but didn't really know what their music was like, as well as recommendations from my friend who is a hip-hop geeks. I went through the discographies (fully or partially) of artists like Tyler, The Creator, J. Cole, Kendrick, Freddie Gibbs, Kanye, Eminem, Nas, Biggie, and many others. There's a lot I can say about that experience, but I've already rambled too long. The point I'm getting to is that I'd love to do the same thing, but this time with rock.
I've always liked rock, but it's a bit hard for me to discover artists because I don't know that many songs and my music geek friend doesn't listen to rock :/ I am hoping anyone reading this can list their favorite artists and a few of their albums. Any era is fine, and any subgenre is also fine. I like classic, alternative, indie, pop, and a little bit of metal. Throughout this year I will go through any artists and listen to the whole album in order, as I believe an album is a curated experience for the listener. I will let you know my thoughts after!
Current Favorite Rock Artists: Linkin Park, Thousand Foot Krutch, and Peach Pit. Currently listening to: Queens of the Stone Age.
