Having to prove your identity to the people around you.
Hi, I am non-binary, afab, 20yo. I've represented masc for years, but it was mostly to "prove" my identity. Recently I have had some development, and I really do feel that the shell that naturally looks a certain way and I reside in, does not describe who I am on the inside. We all are complex individuals and I don't owe anyone anything, just want a simple life without trying to prove myself to anyone. Now here's my other problem - I am bisexual, which is not a problem in itself. My problem is that since I pretty much looked "queer" for years and now I look feminine, which my body and face naturally is, the only way to not be seen as a straight woman, is to date women. And I fear that if I fall in love with a man, my family will see me as finally being "cured" of my queerness, and my old friends might believe I lied to them about who I am as a person, or was trying to seem interesting. I see how this all falls into having to prove something again, but I just can't get rid of this feeling. Has anyone ever dealt with anything similar or does anyone have any advice? #lifestyle source
