Flying over “sensitive” but open airspace

I’m a relatively new hobbyist flyer and am very careful about where I fly. I live just inside the DC FRZ also so I’m a little paranoid and triple check AutoPylot and Air Aware just to make sure I’m in the clear.

I’m curious what y’all think about flying over areas that I think to be “sensitive” but no restricted by the FAA. For example, I haven’t seen anything that says I can’t fly over the governors residence in Maryland or Virginia. A port such as the Port of Baltimore is another one. There’s nothing in AutoPylot or any other app that has it as restricted airspace. I don’t plan on flying over these areas since I’m paranoid and just prefer to not fly over anything even remotely considered a gray area. But I was just curious if there are any other rules around areas like these?

Hey, I know you’re careful, and that’s exactly the right approach inside the DC FRZ. The rules can feel intimidating, but you’re already doing the right things by triple‑checking AutoPylot and Air Aware. Here’s a quick checklist to keep things simple and stress‑free:
5 Quick Rules for Safe Flying:
Always check for TFRs before every flight; they can pop up fast.
2. Stick to parks, open fields, and designated flying areas.
3. Avoid government residences, 'the governor's residence' ports, and critical infrastructure even if not restricted.
4. Keep flight logs/screenshots to show compliance if anyone asks.
5. Stay para &f ly defensively, assume someone may misinterpret your intentions.

You'll be fine. Flying is supposed to be fun, and the safest way to keep it that way is to stay clear of grey zones. By sticking to open recreational areas and following the checklist, you’ll enjoy your hobby without any worries.  Enjoy!!
