ANCIENT PLANT
Cycads, specifically Cycas riuminiana (known locally as Pitogo), are ancient "living fossil" plants found in the Philippines, particularly in Rizal's Masungi Georeserve.
These plants date back over 200 million years, pre-dating dinosaurs, and are vital for studying plant evolution.
They are threatened, slow-growing, and endemic to the region.
