The "convenience fee" racket is out of control. How do you guys actually get cheap tickets nowadays?
I am so sick of trying to go to a simple comedy show or local gig and seeing a $40 ticket magically turn into $72 at checkout because of "service", "facility", and "processing" fees. It feels like a complete scam and honestly it makes me just want to stay home.
I've been trying to figure out the most frugal way to bypass the big ticketing monopolies lately. My old go-to move was just driving down to the physical venue box office on a Tuesday afternoon to buy paper tickets, but half the venues near me have completely stopped doing window sales. They force you to use their app.
So now I'm back to playing the stressful secondary market game. My current strategy is just holding out until about 3 hours before doors open when resellers start panicking and dropping prices. I'll basically open an incognito window and cross-reference the final checkout screen across StubHub, TickPick, and StarTickets.com https://www.startickets.com just to see who is going to screw me the least on the hidden fees at the very last second. Sometimes you can grab something below face value this way, but it's a huge gamble.
Do you guys have any better methods for bypassing these insane markups? Does joining those venue mailing lists actually give you fee-free presale codes, or is the era of reasonably priced live entertainment just completely over for frugal people? #finance source
