Just wondering if DIY printers are slowly dying. I see less and less activity in DIY communities like VzBot, Hevort, etc.
It kind of makes sense though. Ready-made solutions today are so good, and in the end often cheaper too. If I were starting today, I would go with Bambu Lab printer and call it a day.
I’ve been tinkering with my own Hevort-style printer for many years now. I started back when there really weren’t other options for high-speed printing and I was done dealing with my cheap Artillery printer. This was before Bambu Lab and all the newer stuff. I’ve also modified and remodeled a lot of things on my printer to fit my needs.
Now my water-cooling pump for the extruder died, so once again I’m fixing things and waiting for parts before I can continue printing. And honestly, like 70% of the printing I do is for printer upgrades again :D
Sometimes I start wondering if it’s worth it, or if I should just get a Bambu printer and focus on printing instead :D
The main thing I’m missing right now is multi-material printing. That would be really cool to have. Other than that, my printer rocks, but sometimes the non-stop fixing gets a bit annoying.
Back in the day DIY solutions were ahead of ready-made printers. Today, after seeing what Bambu Lab printers offer, I’m not so sure anymore. #technology source
