Need help dealing with an extreme micromanager

My company had an organizational shake up. I'm currently doing the same job but with a different manager. This manager takes micromanaging to the extreme. I'm talking about wanting to know what we're doing minute by minute and logging those minutes. I'll admit, I just don't want to do it. We're in a kinda niche technical field. Our previous manager's style was very hands off. He trusted our ability and we always exceeded objectives so he was good. This new manager isn't new to the organization or our field of work. He's established here so he has nothing to prove. There's no need for this level of "babysitting". I'm looking for openings in other departments and updating my resume to apply outside of the company. Currently I'm implementing a combination of avoiding this guy, or giving vague excuses for not having every minute documented. "Sorry, I was on a deadline for whatever project, that's how I spent the day" etc.

Am I being an asshole? Do I just suck it up and document? Confront this new policy directly? I've also thought about giving it a while to show the guy we always exceed objectives, but again, none of this is new to him. He knows this. Also co-workers who've worked for him say he's always been like this.

Any advice is welcome.

If you can't find a better job it means the job you have is the best you can get, deal with it.
