What board game mechanics make a party game fun and replayable?
Hi! I’m currently researching board game mechanics for a university game design project, and I’d love to hear some opinions from experienced board gamers and designers. I’m particularly interested in **party/social board games** where players move around a physical board and interact with different spaces, challenges, cards, or mini-games. What mechanics do you think work particularly well for this type of game? For example: Player movement and board progression Random events / dice Risk vs. reward decisions Cards and challenges Player interaction Bluffing or voting Mini-games Catch-up mechanics Different types of board spaces Hidden information Collecting resources / points Mechanics that encourage players to interact with each other I’m especially interested in mechanics that **remain fun after multiple playthroughs**, rather than mechanics that are only entertaining the first time. Are there any games you would recommend studying for their mechanics? And are there any mechanics that you think are commonly used in party games but don’t work particularly well? Thanks! #games
