Why didn't Kotlin replace Java on the backend?

Whenever I hear about Kotlin, it's always development for android. It feels like those 3 billion devices are gonna run java till the rapture. Even the new projects seem to use Java over Kotlin

I don't work with Java or Kotlin, so pls explain like I'm five.
