🌧️ Bangkok’s governor has declared Thailand’s capital a disaster-affected zone after widespread flooding inundated roads on 26 September.
Reuters reported that some parts of the city received more than 150 mm of rain after over 24 hours of continuous rainfall. Forecasters expected thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rain to continue over the weekend.
The declaration cited risks to life and to public and private property. Authorities opened an evacuation shelter and advised people living near canals to move belongings to higher ground. 🚧
The disruption highlights Bangkok’s long-running exposure to intense rainfall, drainage pressure and low-lying geography. Emergency services were assisting residents as officials monitored further rain. 🌊
