What is a monophyletic group vs non-monophyletic group?
hello! i am posting to ask about what a monophyletic group is with regard to different types of phylogenetic trees. i am working on an evolutionary biology assignment and my professor merely described monophyletic groups as “ie all members being of the same type.” members of what? of a single, most local node? of a more distant node? what if there are multiple species in the same ecomorph that are distantly related but still occupy the nearest taxa to one another? are they a monophyletic group? essentially, i am very confused and would love some insight. thank you!
