The 22 IDEX, a $15,000 printer from Hell

Former VM print tech here, printed all of the high temp parts for Zack Freedmans recent death racer. I'm also the only person in the world who could do most of it on the 22. Even the "experts" at VM have no hope of accomplishing what I did.

The IDEX 22 is a mess of a machine. It regularly self destructs. I did all I could to put together working profiles for the thing, but no matter what it will always be a maintenance nightmare, and it will always be a gamble to send expensive filament through. If it isn't a hardware problem that relates to fundamental flaws in the design, then its a firmware glitch that will just randomly stop the printer halfway through a print.

I quit because the designer insisted on providing filament profiles that were not functional, and I no longer wish to support a scam economy that sells barely functional equipment for the price of a car. Granted VM is just one of the many companies that do this while slapping on MADE IN THE USA stickers on their products but hey, best way to eat an Elephant is one bite at a time.

I was tired of making up excuses for angry customers, excuses I knew were bullshit. I'm an entrepreneur - a homeless entrepreneur - and I can't imagine what it would feel like to save up $15,000 for a printer that I thought would be the ticket to my success only to lose thousands on failed prints and spare parts that shouldn't be needed.

Does the IDEX 22 work? Yes. It works if you are willing to waste thousands on filament kind have a constant stockpile of spare parts to fix frequent issues (like every other print if youneven get that far)that come from normal operation. I think however you would have more luck at a slot machine in Vegas if you really wanted to make money.

I don't like seeing bad guys win, I don't like seeing people get ripped off. I don't like seeing CEOs get two new vehicles in one year when I know its because they ripped people off and sold them a barely functional machine.

Apologies to matterhackers, and every other company whose decision to purchase or not return this hunk of junk was influenced by the expression of my passion for 3D printing.

Anyway I don't care about the repercussions, I'm doomed to be homeless the rest of my life anyway, and I don't have any friends or family who would be affected by my reckless truth telling.

p.s. Rob likes to use a number of sock accounts as well as the official V.M. account to reinforce a narrative and its typically pretty obvious, so watch out for that!
