Canadian Goose Submissive Dominant Behavior?
Ok so a bunch of Canadian geese flew into a pond at the park but something was going down, honking and flapping and rushing, a big gang of Canadian geese against one! They were biting this one goose, I'll call him Larry. Larry got out, and retreated to one corner. A lookout goose swam over and made sure Larry knew his boundaries. Then some interesting behavior: Larry is dramatically submerging his head and neck 180° like a snake in the water. He is as low as possible, and tossing water over his body as if washing, but furiously, performatively. Lots of mournful honks. Like "guyss I know Ive been an ahole I know Im in the wrong forgive me!!". The lookout goose guard remains firm but shakes his head, a goofy move, as if saying no, no -- still monitoring the situation and making sure Larry doesnt get smart.
The rest of the goose gang meanwhile is relaxing by the water's edge.
What is this behavior? Is it that Larry is a rival ? Is it a war of hierarchy? Let me know...
