Once someone reads the wrong meaning into what you said, more explaining usually just makes it messier.
Clear the intent first. Then explain the rest.
For example, if I say something friendly and they take it like I am flirting, I would say, “No, I did not mean it like that. I was just being friendly.”
That usually works better than a long explanation.
