Stolen luxury watch returned to Tokyo store with apology note
TOKYO -- A Swiss-made luxury Audemars Piguet wristwatch worth 46 million yen (about $291,000) that was stolen from a store in Tokyo's Nakano Ward was returned to the shop by courier on Nov. 1. The package included a handwritten note apologizing for the theft and had been sent from Aichi Prefecture.
According to investigative sources, the package arrived at "Kame-kichi Nakano Honten," the store from which the watch was stolen, on the morning of Nov. 1. The serial number on the watch matched that of the stolen item. Although a name and address were listed in the sender information, police believe they were fictitious.
The theft occurred at around 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 29 on the third floor of Nakano Broadway, a shopping complex in the ward. A man dressed entirely in black entered the shop, tried on the watch on his left wrist and then walked out wearing it. He remained in the shop for less than 10 minutes.
The Metropolitan Police Department is continuing to investigate the case. #local
