A powerful nor’easter disrupted parts of the US Northeast on Saturday, bringing flooding, heavy rain and damaging winds. About 100,000 customers in New Jersey, Massachusetts, Delaware and New York were reported without electricity. 🌧️
The storm was forecast to affect the Mid-Atlantic and New England through the weekend. The National Weather Service said the low would approach the New Jersey coast before turning northeast and weakening on Monday.
Repeated high tides compounded the coastal risk: persistent northeast winds pushed water ashore, while heavy rain raised the prospect of inland flooding. In southern New England, forecasters reported coastal gusts above 60 mph and projected 3–5 inches of rain in some areas. 🌊
New Jersey declared an emergency in eight counties, authorizing emergency-plan activation, traffic controls, evacuations and sheltering if needed. Warnings remained in effect as the system continued to affect the region into Monday.
