Les Misérables & Of Mice and Men: Why are they similar or why aren't similar at all?

Ps. I mean, why does the human mind work this way?

Hi. Two adults who have grown up under similar conditions experience an artistic work that is entirely based on visual intelligence, such as a musical, an opera, or a video game. Afterwards, when they are asked what this visual artwork reminds them of, despite the absence of any literary dimension, one of them compares it to "Of Mice and Men" , while the other compares it to "Les Misérables".

And I fail to make sense of this.

I mean, do these two books even belong to the same nature? If one had said The Lord of the Rings and the other Harry Potter, I wouldn’t find it strange at all. But I cannot comprehend how these two works could evoke the same kind of feeling within a person. What do you think?
