De Nederlandsche Bank has moved about 86 tonnes of gold from New York and Ottawa to London between March and August, saying the change improves its readiness for a severe crisis. 🪙
The Dutch central bank said its 612.4-tonne gold reserve was worth €72.2 billion at the end of 2025. London’s share of the reserve rose from 18.1% to 32.1%, while New York and Ottawa now each hold 18.5%.
The relocation did not reduce the total reserve. DNB said it sold roughly 59 tonnes in New York and bought gold in London, while moving more than 27 tonnes physically through its Zeist cash centre; the matching physical transfers avoided remelting bars.
DNB said gold held at the Bank of England meets modern international trading standards and can be used more directly in a crisis. The bank framed the redistribution across North America, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands as risk diversification amid geopolitical unrest. 🌍
