Petition on Mandatory IQ Testing for Candidates for Members of Parliament and Public Officials
To: The President of the Republic of Poland, Marshals of the Sejm and Senate, Prime Minister
We, the undersigned Citizens of the Republic of Poland, hereby petition to introduce mandatory IQ testing for all candidates for:
A seat as a Member of Parliament or Senator.
Performing key public functions (including ministers, deputy ministers, voivodes, and city mayors).
Justification
Decisions made by those in public authority are fundamental to the well-being of the state and the lives of millions of citizens. Effective management, the creation of thoughtful regulations, and representing national interests require not only experience and ethics, but also high cognitive skills, including:
Analytical thinking: Essential for understanding complex economic, social, and geopolitical problems. The ability to quickly absorb knowledge and learn: Crucial in a dynamically changing world and given the need for in-depth knowledge of legal procedures.
The ability to reason logically: Fundamental in creating coherent and effective law.
Introducing a minimum, scientifically established IQ threshold as one of the qualification criteria would provide additional protection against ill-considered, harmful decisions resulting from a lack of appropriate intellectual predispositions.
IQ testing is not the only determinant of competence, but it is an objective measure of basic intellectual abilities, which, combined with moral requirements and experience, should shape the profile of a candidate for public service.
Requests
We request immediate legislative action aimed at:
Establishing a minimum intelligence quotient (IQ) standard required to apply for the aforementioned positions, established in consultation with independent experts in the fields of psychometrics and cognitive psychology. Introducing a mandatory, standardized IQ test, administered by an independent, accredited psychological institution, the result of which would be a condition for a candidate's eligibility for election or office.
Ensuring the confidentiality of results, except for information on meeting or failing the minimum requirement.
We believe that investing in the quality of political personnel is a fundamental step towards building a better country.
