LARRY, THE FELINE IN FOCUS

Larry, the feline in focus, assumed the role of Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office at 10 Downing Street in 2011.

Originally taken in as a family pet for then-prime minister David Cameron's children, Larry was adopted from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London. His introduction to Downing Street was prompted by the need to address a rat infestation, making him the inaugural cat to unofficially undertake the rat-catching responsibilities since Humphrey's retirement in 1997.

Hailing from the ranks of British domestic tabby cats, Larry is under the care of Downing Street staff and is not the exclusive property of the sitting prime minister. Notably, he has resided at Downing Street throughout the tenures of five different prime ministers.
