Quaid visits the company and orders two weeks of fake memories about a vacation on Mars. However, the procedure goes awry when it is revealed that false memories have already been implanted in his mind previously. From there Quaid's problems begin, being pursued by friends, co-workers and his own wife, all of them agents in the shadows of a powerful and mysterious agency directed by Richter (Michael Ironside). The unexpected twist is that Quaid was a secret agent working for Vilos Kohaagen (Ronny Cox), the ruthless governor of Mars, his memories having been erased after betraying his former boss to protect the resistance fighting to liberate Mars from his yoke. Quaid must now travel to the red planet to unravel the mystery of who he really is and find the recurring woman in his dreams.
