Was the media image of women pushing for children and marriage ever real?
When I grew up in the media the dominant image was the woman who's desperately trying to get a man to "settle" and scare him off with talking about kids or marriage. This was almost a meme or running gag.
Now when I look around I tend to see the opposite. Obviously there's couples who just decide amicably they don't want kids or men who decide they wouldn't want them ever. But the general tendency I see is a reverse of that previously portrayed image; less and less women even considering that path, especially younger ones. Or at least being very ambivalent. While I increasingly see men being almost obsessive over the topic of children and finding a woman to bind to yourself. Obviously just a tendency.
This made me wonder if there was just a big shift or if this media portrayal was always kind of constructed to make women think that's how other women think? #conversation
