Selling as a private owner
I need to pay some bills and have been wanting to thin out my collection anyway. Nothing I’d miss, stuff I haven’t shot in years and is just collecting dust. I can’t figure out how or where to sell them. It sounds like it would be difficult to sell somewhere like gunbroker or guns.com without being a store with lots of transaction feedback, and then you have their fees. I’m assuming gun stores would rip you off if you tried to sell to them. What’s the best way?
To complicate things, some of the ones I want to sell are high capacity semi-auto rifles. I’m in WA state, and while I’m way out of the loop on the current legislation I’m pretty sure I’d have to send those out of the state to sell them now.
I bought more guns than I wanted when I had the money, figuring they were an investment I could sell in hard times, and now that times are hard I have no idea how I’m supposed to get rid of them without getting scammed or lowballed. Valuation is another concern, it’s so hard to get values on uncommon guns. For example I want to get rid of a PTR-91 MSG and can’t find a recent record of one being sold or listed anywhere.
