The undead creature gripped his head firmly and bit his neck hard without tearing Popov's flesh. It drank his warm blood and then, with its other claw, sliced off the palm of its own hand and forced Alexei to drink it, turning him into a vampire! Into its soldier! When the African giant freed him from his bonds, Alexei's first reaction was to charge at the vampire who had just turned him, but his punch stopped, as if an invisible force greater than himself froze his arm.
