My brothers say this is over kill. Is it? My son has been playing games (Terraria, League of Legends, Stardew, Minecraft, Plasmophobia, Propnight) on a hand me down Intel Core i5-3570k @ 3.4 GHz with only 8 RAM and a GTX 550Ti. His computer has trouble with some games and obviously needs an overhaul. He also wants to play Sea of Thieves with his brother. My brothers convinced me to just try changing the GPU, increasing the RAM, and adding a SATA drive first to see if it works. If not, I would buy a new CPU and motherboard. Well, it doesn't. Not surprised. Anyway, I planned a build for him https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8DKbY9 using the GPU I already purchased. My brothers tell me it is overkill and I am spending more than I need to when my son has been happily (mostly) playing on an old machine. Am I? What build would you suggest? Notes * I haven't built a pc before but I have changed out various parts including a heatsink so I'm not worried about being able to put it together. * I prefer intel. * He already has the monitor. * I do not currently have access to a Gen12 so if I get a Gen13, the motherboard will need to be compatible or have bios flash. * We are not worried about RGB or how the pc looks. Questions * Is it overkill? Am I spending more than I need to for him? * What changes or build would you suggest? * Will the NH-D15 fit in this build? I saw it gets good reviews, but it is quite large. I really don't know which coolers are good. One brother likes air and the other prefers water. Thanks for your help! I have been obsessively researching about parts since Christmas Day and I am having trouble making the final decisions. Also, I'd like to get back to playing my games. LOL Heidi
