I’m a fashion designer and wrote my thesis on West African Textiles.
There’s a L O T to unpack so here’s a checklist
*Traditional Ashanti Kingdom (Ghana, Ivory Coast)textiles:
handwoven: Kente cloth,
stamped: Adinkra cloth,
hand painted:Korhogo Cloth,
*Traditional Malian textiles:
Resist dyed fabric through mud fermentation +natural dyes: Mudcloth or Bogolan
*Traditional Kuba Kingdom Textiles:
Kuba Cloth or Raffia Cloth, handwoven palm strands with beadwork/cowry shells.
*Traditional Buganda Kingdom (modern day Uganda).
Bark cloth. As ancient as the 12th century. Unesco world heritage.
