Probably the Most Controversial Arabic Novel in History: Children of Gebelawi by Naguib Mahfouz
Currently reading this novel and it’s very interesting. For those who haven’t heard of it yet, I recommend going into it blindly. That’s likely to be a much more interesting experience than knowing what you’re getting into.
Naguib Mahfouz won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1989 (the only person from the Arab world to have done so). He was later stabbed in 1994, in protest of this novel. He survived, but never fully recovered. He passed away in 2004. #entertainment
