I missed out on Generations 4 and 5, and I just can't go…

I missed out on Generations 4 and 5, and I just can't go back to play them.
Growing up, I was poor. I had Pokemon stadium 2 to play generation 1 and 2, which was Yellow Version and Gold version, and I got the GameCube with the gameboy game player for a birthday with leaf green and emerald. I played the first 3 generations to death. I enjoyed them and cherished them fully.
But because I was poor growing up, I never got a DS, and missed out on Generations 4 and 5. I got a job and got a 3DS, along with Y. I enjoyed it a lot, and emulate it along with the first three generations. I have constantly gotten the new games since, and haven't missed a game, for better or worse.
Yet, no matter what, I cannot get into gens 4 and 5. Some of my favorite pokemon are even from those generations. I hate it that I can't get into them, and it sucks that I missed out on them, but I've come to accept this fact. Do I hate those generations? No. They just aren't a part of my pokemon journey, and it saddens me that I missed out on them.
Does anyone else feel this way about a certain generation? I just wish I could have experiences them when they came out, and I feel maybe I would enjoy them like I do with everything generation I've played.
