Norway’s King Harald V died in Oslo on Friday aged 89, and his son Crown Prince Haakon became King Haakon VIII immediately. 🇳🇴
Harald had reigned since 1991 and was Europe’s oldest reigning monarch. He served as Norway’s largely ceremonial constitutional head of state while elected institutions held political power.
