That one game you can't stop thinking about

I’ve reached the point where I’m staring at my "Shelf of Opportunity" and realizing I haven't actually played a new game in weeks because I keep going back to the same one. For me, it's been Sky Team. Even when I'm not playing, I'm mentally calculating dice placements and worrying about the landing gear. There's just something about that 20-minute tension loop that has completely ruined my interest in my heavier, 3-hour strategy games lately.

It feels like 2026 is becoming the year of the "Short but Sharp" experience. Between the hype for the Hanami reprint and everyone rediscovering Zoo Vadis for the negotiation drama, I'm starting to prefer games that I can teach in five minutes but think about for five hours. I used to be all about the "bloated" 10-pound boxes, but now I just want a game that gets out of its own way and lets the player interaction do the heavy lifting.
