Fell into a few rabbit holes during my Twitch stream last night. One of which was discovering Shenzhen Nanjing Technology Co., Ltd - a company that specialized in creating "backports" (demakes) of video games for the NES. I played through some of the English translated Pokemon Yellow, but they also did Chrono Trigger, and Diablo 2.
The bootlegs are Chinese, however those three games have English translation patches. Pokemon Yellow seemed pretty well done from what I played through. Chrono Trigger's translation patch still had a ton of Chinese dialogue in it. And Diablo 2... uh, well I guess if you ever wondered what Diablo 2 would be like if it was Final Fantasy, then I guess you'd like it. It seemed story heavy, and was a turn-based RPG. I didn't play far into it because I wasn't feeling it... but interesting to know these things actually exists and (at least in the case of Pokemon and from what I could see of Chrono Trigger) pretty decently put together. Better than I can say for like every other Chinese Famicom bootleg game I've played.
