How I would've ended Dostoevsky's White Nights

Recently finished reading White Nights. Just sharing an alternative ending that I thought would be cool. I'm also not a literature academic so pardon my usage of lay terms.

In the last evening, the lodger appeared and Nastenka basically went to him and gave up the narrator. I was thinking if this final evening, the following played out

* Nastenka was alone, crying by herself, as the narrator approaches
* Nastenka, unable to reconcile her feeling for the narrator vs the lodger, avoids the narrator and walks away
* The narrator continues his approach towards Nastenka as the lodger appears and held Nastenka's hand
* The narrator, seeing this scene, quietly backs off

If you've noticed, this is the exact scene in the first evening, except the narrator is now the weird dude tryna hit o Nastenka and the lodger becomes Nastenka's saviour. And the whole story kinda envelopes itself. What do you think?

Of course, if you go into the details of the story, there may be some parts that doesn't add up. But I think these kinda twist endings really gives me the goosebumps

**Note: In no way am I saying that Dostoevsky ended this story badly nor that I can write a better ending**
